FAST stands for Fixed-bed Adsorption Simulation Tool. FAST is a software to predict breakthrough curves of fixed-bed adsorption filters used in water treatment.

Depending on the contaminant to be removed in the process, different adsorbent media can be chosen, such as granular activated carbon (GAC) for or metal oxides (e.g., activated alumina, granular ferric hydroxide). FAST can be used for the design or scale-up of these treatment systems. Another application is the determination of kinetic parameters from laboratory experiments.

FAST provides a numerical solution of the homogeneous surface diffusion model (HSDM) and the linear-driving force approximation (LDF).

FAST was designed to be intuitively used. The comprehensive built-in help makes FAST a useful tool to be used for teaching, e.g., in water engineering and water chemistry classes.
